Highchair

highchair

I got interested in Windsor chairs and started making them in 1976. I built this high chair late in 1977 because it seemed like we might be needing one. The seat is pine and the balance is White Oak. I turned the legs on the lathe and steam bent the arm and the comb. I made the spindles with a block plane and carved the seat with chisels and an inshave. There was a tray which fit neatly between the arms that was held in place with little wooden latches. Both of our kids used it and some of theirs did too.

One year everyone in my evening woodworking class at Anderson Valley High School made Windsor chairs. I believe that most of them are still around. 1977
